Dr. Josie Bass is the Founder and principal of the Alva Consortium, a not-for-profit foundation specializing in providing training in facilitated dialogue, strategic planning, and problem solving to NGOs and community based organizations as well as national, state and local government and corporate organizations. She has done a great deal of work in the area of conflict management and peace building in the U.S. and elsewhere, especially in Africa. As a civil rights activist in her student days she had helped Martin Luther King in organizing some of the largest non-violent peace marches in the sixties. For more than twenty years, Dr. Bass was an active volunteer leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the largest civil rights organization in the Unites States. She is politically active and has served as executive commitment member and member of the Board of Governors of America’s oldest woman’s political club, the Woman’s National Democratic Club, and has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and presently serves on their Corporate Council Board.
